Results (24th May)

Greetings amigos,

As we entered the final minutes of the season, we had what would have arguably been the greatest comeback in Predictio history. As the final whistles blew around the country, we were left with probably the most relieved champion yet. Mr Moore spent large swathes of the final 30 minutes of the season at the top of the table; had late goals fallen his way at any of the games at The Amex, Turf Moor, The City Ground or The London Stadium, he would have put daylight between himself and the rest of the pack and secured his third Predictio title. As it happened, it was Mr Stewart-Jones who had a late goal fall his way - an 89th minute consolation by Jean-Phillipe Mateta delivered SJ his 39th spot-on of the season and landed him a record sixth domestic title and eleventh major honour of his career to date by virtue of his superior spot-ons tally (both managers finished on 225 points apiece). May I be the first to congratulate SJ on a truly fantastic season - a league and cup double for the third time in his career. At the same time, heartfelt commiserations to Mr Moore - the monthly silverware was secured but will no doubt be scant consolation and discarded faster than the video files on a Southampton FC intern's mobile phone. Elsewhere Mr Luke and myself scored 8, Mr O'Callaghan 7, and Mr Raistrick and Mr Crinnion scored 5.

Any mistakes let me know - thank you to all managers for your participation this season.

Take it easy,

Danny

Results (16th & 17th May)

Greetings amigos,

For much of the 2025-26 season, it appeared unlikely that we would get any late drama in the title race, as Mr Stewart-Jones opened up a sizeable advantage ahead of the chasing pack. Alas, bit by bit, point by point, Mr Moore has made gains to such an extent that SJ will be more than checking his shoulder down the final straight. Phil outscored our leader by 7 points to 4 to bring himself to within a point of the summit. The equation for the final weekend of fixtures is simple: barring something outrageous from those in third and below, if Phil outscores SJ by 2 points he will win his first title in 5 years and the third of his career to date, having not been in top spot since the end of August. From SJ's perspective, his spot-ons record gives him a marginal amount of extra breathing room, and therefore scoring a point fewer than Phil this weekend will almost certainly deliver him a record-breaking 6th domestic title.Time will tell! Elsewhere the drama is somewhat less palpable: Mr Raistrick top scored with an impressive 11 points, Mr Luke and Mr Crinnion scored 5 and I scored 4. Mr O'Callaghan appears to have gone into hiding after his failure to submit predictions earlier this month, whilst Mr McClay and Mr West have long been on the beach.

Any mistakes let me know, final fixtures of the season to follow.

Take it easy,

Danny

Results (9th & 10th May)

Greetings amigos,

The pressures of a title chase can do strange things to a Predictio manager. This week it was Mr O'Callaghan's turn to find himself under the 8-ball, as he failed to submit predictions and gave Mr Stewart-Jones some blessed relief as a result. SJ added 5 to his tally and leads the monthly race; should he remain at the front of that mini challenge he knows he will take the grand prize. Mr Moore ensured that the pressure is still on our leader, as he scored 4 points to trail by the same margin in the overall standings. Adam will be hoping that he can pull off something remarkable in the final 2 gameweeks, but at 12 points back it's looking somewhat unlikely. Elsewhere Mr Luke top scored with 7 points, Mr Raistrick and myself scored 5 and Mr Crinnion 3.

Any mistakes let me know, fixtures to follow.

Take it easy,

Danny

The Soares Cup: Final

Greetings amigos,

Results (2nd & 3rd May)

Greetings amigos,

The title race continues to be a nail biting affair, as Mr Moore top scored with 8 points to move into second place in the overall standings and 3 points behind Mr Stewart-Jones, who added 7 to his tally. Mr O'Callaghan had a slightly less successful weekend than he's enjoyed of late, as he scored 4 points. Just 7 points separate the top three managers heading into the final 3 gameweeks, so it's undoubtedly a race that's going to the wire. Elsewhere, Mr Crinnion enjoyed a solid return of 6 points, Mr Raistrick and Mr Luke scored 4 apiece and I produced a lacklustre performance which garnered just 2 points.

Any mistakes let me know, fixtures sent earlier this week.

Take it easy,

Greetings amigos,

Predictio champions will often look to moments in title winning seasons when they notched a crucial spot-on to build or maintain momentum. Mr Stewart-Jones may regard the 3 points he took from the final encounter of the gameweek in that category, as it made up half of his weekly tally and kept the majority of his advantage at the top of the table intact. The gap to Mr O'Callaghan (who scored 7) and Mr Moore (8) now stands at 4 points, and we look to have a humdinger of a title race on our hands. Away from the title race, Mr Raistrick scored 7 points to secure the MotM Award, his first of the season and the 24th of his career to date - congratulations amigo! To complete the picture, I scored 8, Mr Luke 3 and Mr Crinnion 0 (from a reduced fixture list).

Any mistakes let me know, fixtures to follow.

The Soares Cup: Semi-Final 2nd Leg

Greetings amigos,

The second legs of the semi-final stage produced encounters of distinctly differing levels of tension, with a walkover in one and a tense finale in the other.

The walkover came for SJ, who defeated Theo W 7-0 to complete a 12-0 aggregate victory and take his place in his sixth Soares Cup final; he will be hoping he can continue his free-scoring form on his way to lifting his third Soares Cup.

The second semi-final produced an enthralling encounter, as Adam fought to overcome a 5 point deficit from his first leg against Nick. Adam won the battle but not the war - his 9-6 victory fell short ultimately, with Nick winning 16-14 on aggregate. The Soares Cup has been a source of significant success for Crinnion - he has lifted the trophy a record 3 times in his career to date and, like SJ, this will be his sixth appearance in the final.

SF1: SJ  (12) 7 v 0 (0)  Theo W
SF2: Nick  (16) 6 v 9 (14)  Adam

The final will take place during the weekend of 1-3 May - good luck to both managers.

Take it easy,

Danny
