The Soares Cup: Semi-Final 2nd Leg

Greetings amigos,

The second legs of the semi-final stage produced encounters of distinctly differing levels of tension, with a walkover in one and a tense finale in the other.

The walkover came for SJ, who defeated Theo W 7-0 to complete a 12-0 aggregate victory and take his place in his sixth Soares Cup final; he will be hoping he can continue his free-scoring form on his way to lifting his third Soares Cup.

The second semi-final produced an enthralling encounter, as Adam fought to overcome a 5 point deficit from his first leg against Nick. Adam won the battle but not the war - his 9-6 victory fell short ultimately, with Nick winning 16-14 on aggregate. The Soares Cup has been a source of significant success for Crinnion - he has lifted the trophy a record 3 times in his career to date and, like SJ, this will be his sixth appearance in the final.

Greetings amigos,

A marathon, not a sprint - a cliché as old as the hills (itself a cliché). Also a fitting summary of the race for domestic glory in Predictio this season. Mr Stewart-Jones looked to have everything wrapped up as we entered the business end of proceedings, but in recent weeks the chasing pack - principally Mr O'Callaghan and Mr Moore - have gained ground, bit by bit, point by point. The last fortnight continued that trend with our league leader adding 9 points to his tally, whilst Adam and Phil both notched 13 points apiece. SJ's lead is still handy at 5 points, and all managers would switch places with him in a heartbeat, but the challenge for our 5-time title winner is handling the pressure down the stretch having enjoyed a 25 point lead earlier in the season. Mr Raistrick gave a reminder of his capabilities by top scoring with 16 points, whilst I scored 12, Mr Crinnion 10 and Mr Luke 9. Mr West and Mr McClay have departed for their summer holidays.
