The Soares Cup 2014 Final (Replay)

Greetings amigos,

After their draw last weekend Nick and Phil had to face off again in order to determine who would lift the 2014 Soares Cup.  Both managers pulled out all of the stops in a very high scoring affair, but it was Crindog who triumphed 13-10 over MD to win his first Soares Cup title and his first major honour since winning the domestic title in 2007-08 - congratulations amigo!  Phil is left to lick his wounds as he tasted defeat in the final of the competition for the second year running.

Final (Replay):

Nick  13 - 10  Phil

Results (11th May - Season Finale)

Greetings amigos,

And so to the final scene of the epic drama that is the Predictio season.  Going into the last day Mr Raistrick had a pretty comfortable 8 point lead over the chasing pack and was seemingly heading towards a relaxed afternoon in securing his maiden title.  However, Ben was made to sweat until the final whistles sounded up and down the country as I scored 16 points to Jamine's 8 to close the gap and pull level on points.  Ben's superior spot-ons haul of 35 to my 33 meant that his first title was in the bag by the narrowest margin in Predictio history.  May I take this opportunity to say congratulations to our new champion - after finishing runner-up last season and having lead the table for the vast majority of this year's competition, Ben is a very worthy winner and fully deserves his title.

Elsewhere the scoring was pretty high, as Mr Luke matched my weekly total but with an astounding 5 spot-ons to take the final MotM Award of the season, whilst Mr Crinnion (13) and Mr Moore (10) both had very solid weeks.  Mr O'Callaghan and Mr McClay both finished their respective campaigns with 8 point hauls, whilst Mr Stewart-Jones and Mr West opted to extend their summer break by a week via not submitting predictions.

All that's left for me to say is thank you to all managers for your efforts this season - we each now have a month to relax and recuperate ahead of the 2014 Predictio World Cup, in which SJ will be hoping that he can retain the international crown he won in 2010.

Any mistakes let me know - stay tuned for World Cup fixtures...

Take it easy,

Danny

The Soares Cup 2014 Final

Greetings amigos,

Nick and Phil contested the 2014 Soares Cup final this weekend, and in doing so have made history.  The final was a cagey affair that ended in a 4-4 draw - Mad Dog was leading going into the weekend's last few matches, but Crindog's correct call that Norwich would get a draw at Stamford Bridge levelled things in the closing stages.  As a result, for the first time in the trophy's 3 year history, there will have to be a replay to decide who lifts the trophy, which will take place this coming weekend.

Take it easy,

Danny

Results (3rd & 4th May)

Greetings amigos,

Another very low scoring week means that Mr Raistrick has a firm hand on the Predictio 2013-14 title, and only a significant turn of events on the final day of the season will deny him his maiden championship trophy.  Ben top scored with 5 points, a tally matched by Mr McClay.  Myself, Mr Crinnion, Mr Moore and Mr Luke all scored 4 apiece, whilst Mr Stewart-Jones (3), Mr West (2) and finally Mr O'Callaghan (1) struggled for points.  Jamine has an 8 point advantage with 1 gameweek to go, although 5 managers conceivably go into the last week of the season with a shot at top spot.  The final MotM race is wide open, with just 4 points separating top from bottom.

Any mistakes let me know - fixtures to follow.

Take it easy,

Danny
